What To Wear: {Spring} Bridal Shower

BB

Yes, its that time of year again. We’re talking weddings. Starting now through August, our mailboxes, both freestanding and virtual, are on stand-by for Save-the-Dates and full-fledged invites to the nuptials of college roommates, study buddies and favorite acquaintances.

Enter the Bridal Shower, as well as the inevitable question of what to wear. We said “Yes” to these three dresses, each chosen to suit the modern bride’s mix of stylish girlfriends. The girly-girl, the bohemian, and the sex pot usually arrive fashionably late and make an effort to steer clear of the bride-to-be’s signature {white} sundress.

Whether the soiree is indoors or out, color is key for this pre-bridal bash. Flats are fine, but heels take the prize. You can even accessorize with a well chosen hat. Don’t forget to bring a gift!

SJ

What To Wear: Big City Weekend Getaway

3 Day City Getaway

Man we loved college…game nights, house parties, football games and the highly anticipated Spring break. Under-grad or not, winter getaways are usually well deserved. Whether you’re hitting South Beach, cruising the Caribbean or headed to the Big Apple, you’ve simply got to dress the part.

If you’re headed to New York City, be prepared for the big chill with a few suggested pieces. Fashionable hoodies, rugged denim, sweater dresses, cardigans and boots should be at the top of your packing list while leaving plenty of room in your suitcase to shop like a New Yorker.

Enjoy,

Shekinah

What To Wear: Fashion Week Day 4

FW Day 3

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week keeps getting better.  From Tracy Reese to Reem Acra, designers are pulling out all the stops to make a powerful impact on the upcoming season. Its only natural that the esteemed attendees and fashion feens would put on for the exciting events.

This Rachel Zoe inspired looks serves as a fashion statement and a necessity. Its 32 degrees in NY fashionistas! If all else fails, keep warm. See you there!

SJ

What To Wear: Turkey Day 2011

WTW: Turkey Day

Thanksgiving Day 2011 is upon us. So get excited and get dressed. Whether you’re house hopping or spending the day at home with family and friends, choosing a turkey-friendly outfit should be sweet as pie.

One of my favorite holiday looks is a cozy sweater dress and a pair of boots. Its simple, straight to the point and it leaves plenty of room for my mom’s coca-cola glazed ham and cranberry dressing. Hmm, hmm good!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Yours,

S. Johnson

What To Wear: Casual Brunch

brunch ladies

A girl’s gotta eat. And style is on the menu with these casual brunch looks. Whether you’ve got a craving for french toast at a chic downtown eatery or eggs over easy at your neighborhood mainstay, doing brunch is always chic.

Some of my favorite brunch appropriate pieces include a dark wash skinny jean, flowy chiffon blouse and a trendy boot. A great place to scout for ‘ladies who brunch’ looks include cheap-chic fashion phenom Forever 21 and the juniors department at Nordstrom.

Dressing, and dressing well for a mid-day meal is essential to making the event more than just another occasion to fill your belly.

Yours,

S. Johnson

What To Wear: Fashionably Employed

Wear To Work

Creative jobs lend themselves to creative dressing. Whether you’ve got a cubicle at Vogue or a corner office at Coldwell Banker, a modern woman’s work wardrobe should never be drab. Choosing tailored pieces that reflect your personality are key, in addition to investing in items that you’ll keep in your closet from season to season.

The sheath dress, the mary-jane pump and the pencil skirt are my three go-to items, each piece ranging in cost from as little as 10 bucks on the clearance rack at Target to $50 regular price at DSW. All in all, a little green and an eye for versatility go along way in dressing for the work place.

Yours,

S. Johnson
